Building on the previous four Southbank Arts Trails, 2007’s event will be a whole week of arts and performance, from 12 – 19 May, starting with the Arts Trail weekend.
The week kicks off with the traditional Arts Trail weekend, on the 12 and 13 May, between 11 am and 6 pm, where the public are offered the opportunity to view art and performance in Artists homes, churches, community centres and public houses. With the advent of the Arts Week some venues may elect to remain open all week.
For more information on the arts and performance events happening after the arts trail, from Mon 14th to Sat 19th May, please go to the Arts Week 2007 page.
Expanding on the original Trail concept of walking and experiencing art, the week will be built around the theme of travel.
Following on from the success of last year’s collaborative ‘Shoe Box’ exhibition, this year sees two such exhibitions taking centre stage. Both are travel related, Message on a Bottle will give everyone the opportunity to use an art form of their choice to decorate an empty bottle and send a positive message to friends or loved ones in a different part of the world. Seaside, Cities & Sandwiches aims to collect peoples audio and visual holiday memories and allow the public to immerse themselves in the resulting world of travel related nostalgia. Full participation briefs for each event can be found on the Message On a Bottle and Seaside, Cities & Sandwiches pages.
The week following the Arts Trail will see the venues of Southbank Land filled by a variety of evening events by local performers. It is hoped these will include a Poetry reading, Classical, Acoustic and Voice Concerts, Theatre and Dance events, a night showcasing local bands and an end of Arts Week Party (precise list of events list to be confirmed).
So don’t travel anywhere outside Southbank Land in the third week of May 2007. Get your Arts Week passport and stay in the area to go out.
There are four main ways to access details on the art and artists involved in the 2007 Arts Trail. The following galleries allow you to view all artists (A-Z, with text and images), a list of artists (A-Z, list of names that link to artists’ pages), a list of venues (A-Z) where art will be shown or performed, or view by categories of art (A-Z).
There is also a map of the trail, displaying the locations of the venues showing art during the trail. The venues are numbered as in the trail passport guide and there are links to the artists sowing at each venue.
A copy of the SBA Arts Week 2007 poster is available for those who wish to print it or keep a copy of it. It can be downloaded from the link below.
