Arts Trail theme and community project for 2011

The 2011 Arts Trail has a theme of "Celebration", and we have been busy with our community project of making bunting! Local schools have been making bunting that we hope to festoon the streets and venues with!

All venues are being invited to make bunting to hang outside, along with a Trail flag. We hope to make the Trial and its venues visible from the end of each street and really emphasise our theme of celebration. Also please see below for the bunting competition for venues.

Bunting workshops in Faithspace

Glen Eastman has coordinated a huge effort to produce loads of bunting, with six schools taking part. Individual envelopes were delivered to each class teacher, each with 30 pieces of triangular bunting inside, waiting to be decorated by the pupils. 54 classes managed to complete their contribution.

Glen asked for volunteers to help sew the bunting onto lengths of tape to complete the bunting. Eighteen people helped sew the bunting together, over 6 sessions in a lovely light bright room in Faithspace. There was tea, coffee, cakes and music to help the workers along. Thank you to Glen and all of the volunteers who helped to make this happen.

Each piece of complete bunting was about 12 metres long, and Glen thinks that over a third of a mile of bunting has been sewn together!

Bunting workshops at Paper Village

Southbank Bristol Arts subsidised three 'creative bunting' sessions at Paper Village, 200 North Street (near the Hen and Chicken and Venue 31 on the Trail). These fun workshops gave SBA members a great opportunity to get going on their bunting and try out some new and interesting fabric based techniques (plus a chance to meet other members, share ideas and eat cake!)

Bunting competition

There will be a prize for the best bunting, judged by venue, and continuing with the celebration theme, the winning venue will receive a lovely box of chocolates and a bottle of bubbly.

Here's a document with bunting voting slips in it, if you'd like to print out some slips for voting on the venues you visit. These will also be available at the Southville Centre, where you can post your vote in the voting box.

The winner of the competition will be notified at the end of trail party and given their prize then (if they still have enough energy to attend!)
