Imagine, if you will, a warm sunny Saturday in May (I know, but stay with me) and you're at a loose end. The birds are singing, the trees look great, and there's a lovely light breeze. Perfect for a walk. You think to yourself, “I'd like to go out. Hey, I'll go to the SBA Arts Trail!"
You reach for the Pigeon, and scour through it. No Arts Trail mentioned here. Same in Venue. Where has the Arts Trail gone? Is it not happening this year? Oh no! What happened?
It's that time of year again when all I seem to live, eat and breathe is the Arts Trail. Whilst this is not actually true, it really does seem to be sometimes. It's a constant round of chasing people - artists, makers, venues. So, as well as looking forward to the Trail weekend as a great event to be a part of, I can't wait for Monday 12 May when it will all be over for another year. And this is my last year as part of the group which organises the Trail, so I think I'll be able to breathe a little more easily soon.
Just in case anyone is interested, I have some darkroom equipment that I don't use any more that is free to a good home.
There are some trays, concertina (chemical storage) bottles, measuring cylinders, a film processing tank with one reel (for processing negatives), some masks and easels for enlargement purposes (that you'd put the paper on to hold down and use as a mask while enlarging), a splashproof-type apron, tongs a squeegee and a few other things that are used in the darkroom.
We meet every Tuesday evening 7pm - 9pm at 6 Beauley Road. It's a small group but new people are always welcome. We are lucky to have great models, so do come and join us and get your drawing skills going! £5. Details from Sue Gruffydd - 953 0674
If you don't read The Jackdaw, it's time you caught up - the antidote to artbollocks and always a stimulating read. This letter may be in the next issue...
As the writer of the letter referred to by Don Kennewick (Correcting Correctness, no.76 March) I'd like to say first: I agree with him that so-called political correctness is one of the more egregious American imports; the phrase and the attitude both. It's a safe bet that you will find someone who, having taken PC on board, will also subscribe to the condemnation of making 'value judgements' at art exhibitions.

Thanks to Janine for organising the workshop after the last steering meeting. It was a great night and i thoroughly enjoyed having a play and not being too worried about the outcome! Saying that though the outcome was great, so many interesting things were made in such a short space of time!
