Arts Week 2007

Building on the previous four Southbank Arts Trails, 2007’s event will grow into a whole week of arts & performance (May 12 – 19). By expanding on the original Trail concept of walking and experiencing art the week will be built around the theme of travel.

The week will kick off with the traditional Arts Trail where the public are offered the opportunity to view art and performance in Artists homes, churches, community centres and public houses. With the advent of the Arts Week some venues may elect to remain open all week.

Following on from the success of last years collaborative ‘Shoe Box’ exhibition this year sees two such exhibitions taking centre stage. Both are travel related, ‘Message On a Bottle’ will give everyone the opportunity to use an art form of their choice to decorate an empty bottle and send a positive message to friends or loved one’s in a different part of the world. ‘Sun, Cities & Sandwiches’ aims to collect peoples audio & visual holiday memories and allow the public to immerse themselves in the resulting world of travel related nostalgia. Full participation briefs for both events will be released shortly.

The week following the Arts Trail will see the venues of Southbank land filled by a variety of evening events by local performers. It is hoped these will include a Poetry reading, Classical, Acoustic and Voice Concerts, Theatre and Dance events, a night showcasing local bands and an end of Arts Week Party (precise list of events list to be confirmed).

So don’t travel anywhere outside Southbank land in the 3rd week of May 2007. Get your Arts Week passport and stay in the area to go out.
