I have always been strongly drawn to textiles of all kinds – I love the colour, the texture, the smell of fabric. In recent years dyeing, printing, feltmaking and stitching have become something of a passion. In addition to my textile work, I also work as Finance Manager for an architectural practice. I enjoy both aspects of my work but often have difficulty reconciling the two.
My work this year stems from my desire to do my tiny little bit for our tired abused planet.
I have made a pile of “earth friendly” shopping bags as an alternative to the plastic that is offered to us in most shops. I can’t guarantee the environmental credentials of all the fabrics I have used, but all the bags are made from remnants, offcuts or recycled clothes/bedlinen which has to be a tiny step in the right direction.
