I work from imagination to create my own poetic vision of the world around me. Over time, I have developed a number of themes and characters, largely with origins in childhood memory and dream imagery. My subject matter reflects my interest in, myth, folklore, history and magic and my characters express both the light and darker sides of human nature.
At the root of my painting is a fascination with the human condition. My work therefore deals largely with characters. I am particularly drawn to extraordinary people with special gifts and I often use archetypes for their powerful symbolism.
At present, I am working on a series of portraits collectively called “Firework Folk” In these paintings, the protagonists are given characteristics of various types of firework, in order to express aspects of their natures. These simple fireworks of childhood memory evoke a deep emotional pull.
For this years Arts Trail, I will be extending my opening hours into the week, from Saturday 12th til Friday 18th May, 11 am until 6 pm daily.
