I am based at Jamaica Street Studios in Bristol, where I have my own studio space and kiln. I like to work with casting slips, especially porcelain as it has a beautiful quality, with a pure white finish. I am experimenting with decorating slips and Sgraffito, on heart shape and cylinder forms. This is where you scratch into the top layer of slip, revealing the white clay body underneath. I am enjoying working with this technique, as it allows me to draw into clay and create patterns and texture. I will sometimes finish work with hints of gold lustre and transfers.
I am currently half way through my teacher training (Art). This has been a very challenging, yet rewarding experience. I have had opportunities to teach children ceramics, but I too have been learning new skills and techniques. Opportunities have been given for me to teach textiles, which has been great fun. I now have my own sewing machine and I look forward to experimenting with my own textile work.
