My interest in jewellery was aroused at an early age. Initial making skills were gained whilst at Dartington Hall School. In the 1970s these were extended whilst studying at Queens Road College of Art and Design, 1996-1999. I have been designing, making and selling jewellery ever since. More recently it has become my full-time occupation.
From my workshop in Totterdown I overlook the frenetic urban landscape of Bristol. The repetitive forms of modern architecture, man made concrete, metal and glass surround me. I observe the continual movement and constant energy of commercial city life. My experiences of a rural upbringing, love for the sea and naturally formed world are juxtaposed to this.
Consideration of these relationships inspire the design of my work and inform my decisions regarding production processes. Although some pieces are entirely hand made utilising traditional methods, developing technologies feature in both the design and realisation of other work. Working mainly in silver, contrast is achieved with the use of enamels, heat and semi-precious stones.
