He works in a number of ways, from a naive painting style to mixed media techniques, with digital software. Alongside his painterly work, Dave Bain has developed an ongoing project, called 'Birdboy Drawings'. With an emphasis on natural subjects, his work showcases a sophisticated line and choice of imagery. Working in a variety of combined media, with a strong drawing style, Dave aims to evoke a sense of space and intrigue in his pieces.
His work is highly commended by the Macmillan Children's Prize and also appears in Contact 07/08, Images 30 and 31 AOI annuals and 3x3 4th annual (Jan 2008). His illustrations are also used as examples in the book, 'Illustration - A Theoretical & Contextual Perspective' written by Alan Male (AVA Academia - 2007). He has had a children's book published by Harcourt, various pieces printed in editorial contexts and his very own book, 'Where's My Hero?' was published through 'Small Press 78' (2007).
