PAINTING TO SOME PURPOSE
IAN MASLEN, JOHN FORD, EDWIN RHODES
Centrespace Gallery, 6 Leonard Lane, Bristol, BS1 1AE
March 29TH - April 3RD 2008
Ian Maslen, John Ford and Edwin Rhodes will be presenting a selection of their recent work at Centrespace Gallery in Bristol. The three Bristol based artists have been developing their work over the last few years and have come together to present a body of work that explores the diversity within contemporary abstract painting.
Edwin Rhodes explores rhythm in his work. Influenced by the natural environment, Rhodes paints in a responsive manner, his direction towards a resonance of the whole. Ian Maslen produces large paintings that contain unconscious imagery and explosive marks. These marks are born through physical and emotional expression. Influenced by geometric and architectural forms, John Ford creates works featuring a hybrid of both painting and printing techniques.
All three artists graduated from University with degrees in Fine Art in 2005, Edwin Rhodes from Wolverhampton University and Ian Maslen and John Ford from the University of Plymouth. Maslen has been developing his practice at Widcombe Studios in Bath since 2006 and Ford has been a member of Spike Island Printmakers since 2005 with both artists exhibiting locally over the last two years. Rhodes has been teaching art and has continued to develop his work since completing his studies. His work has been exhibited, praised and sought-after at home and abroad.
This exhibition is a great opportunity for everyone to view an exciting collection of new and affordable art by three young emerging artists
