During the Art Trail my work can be seen at the Grant Bradley Gallery. I am exhibiting large scale portraits in pastel. The Rolling Stones are an enigma. The adage 'too old to rock & roll, too young to die' doesn't apply. When selecting a pose of 'Ron', I wanted to capture the battle scars both physical and psychological, of a life of rock and roll. The incline of the face, the sideways stare of the half lighting portrays an arrogance suitable for rock royality and a menace with which this band were once associated, and which, as the 'young buck' of the outfit, Ron Wood still is. My work is about exploring how I see and experience the world. I'm interested in capturing a moment that is personal to me - a moment of being. Using direct processes such as drawing and processes that contain an element of chance such as monoprinting, I aim to make visual the connection between the landscape that I exist in, that I walk through and touch and the landscape that I carry inside me - the landscape of memory and imagination. My work is influenced by subjectivism and existentialism. Using mainly photographs of myself I create work which is influenced by poetry and by my own thoughts, feelings and philosophies of a particular time. I use several motifs which occur regularly such as hands which are to represent creativity, eyes to represent inner self and well being and bee boxes which represent entrapment, frustration and control. Other motifs include wings, feathers, birds, stones, heads and feet. Read more →
