The Park Studio Group

Alabaster carving by Myles Nash

This group of sculptors began life three years ago when their community education class was discontinued. Deciding to carry on working together, they have since attracted new members to share their studio space at The Park Local Opportunity Centre in Knowle.

Members work in a variety of media including stone, ceramic and wire, and share their skills in a mutually supportive environment. A selection of their work will be on show at the trail, along with details of the group for anyone who would like to join them.

Torsio (Trikonasana 1) (2007) @ Temple Church, Bristol

Sculpture in stone, wood and metal. Looking for the unseen within materials while exploring stillness, simplicity and symbolism - creating space for reflection.

Bath exhibition - Walcot Chapel, 10th-15th June. See www.boundlessart.co.uk for details

I work from the unknown, from the inside, taking the material as my starting point and allowing a form to emerge and evolve as naturally as possible. A sense of place often informs my work: it might be the original inspiration for a piece or a specific setting I have in mind for the finished sculpture.

Vivi Cuevas

Hadita mariposa

My inspiration comes straight from my heart and the child within me. I spontaneously create little personalities in clay and paint them with bright colours.
This year I have been working with fired crank clay, so the little creatures can live outdoors or indoors...the choice is yours.

In bright oil pastel paintings, the 2D women would have a life of their own, and some would begin to ride wild and domestic animals. They then ventured off the page and became 3D "Bagladies". Their forms are made entirely from supermarket plastic bags which are "sculpted" into shape and finished with layers of papier mache, then finished with acrylics. It's a very compulsive and hugely enjoyable process. Men and more animals have joined them. Read more →

Christopher Box

Plummit. 2007

Christopher's sculptures explore transitional states. A selection of works in steel, plaster and resin will be exhibited on the trail.

'My work focuses on the transistional states of thought and place. The physical action in the binding of the steel wire is caught in the plaster skin. Through the making process of the work i am exploring myself. Culminating in sculpture. An investigative insight into transitional states and the self.'
