Project 971. Leviathan - creature of chaos, Biblical monster, oceanic beast, submarine. Exploring the universe through text and sculpture.
I work primarily in printmaking producing images from woodcuts and linocuts of scenes in and around the city and countryside as well as portraits of people. This year I will be featuring a number of pieces based on scenes in and around Bristol and the pople one meets and sees on a day to day basis. I also produce relatively large drawings in colour wax crayons using the landmarks of the local region as a subject basis.

He works in a number of ways, from a naive painting style to mixed media techniques, with digital software. Alongside his painterly work, Dave Bain has developed an ongoing project, called 'Birdboy Drawings'. With an emphasis on natural subjects, his work showcases a sophisticated line and choice of imagery. Working in a variety of combined media, with a strong drawing style, Dave aims to evoke a sense of space and intrigue in his pieces.

My work focuses on the body. I find the human figure unpredictable, constantly changing and challenging. There is a connection between the artist and the model, you can capture their/your personality and emotions without it being a portrait/self portrait. I find the process intuitive; I work quickly and only allow myself to reflect on what I have done afterwards - and then change it. I capture an impression of what I see, focusing on elements to make them more dynamic - emphasising complementry colours and how they react to each other. Read more →
I completed a BA(hons) degree in Illustration in 2003 and have been doing various creative jobs ever since. I work mainly with acrylics, graphite and mixed media, painting and drawing, and am interested in a wide array of subject matter. This includes sealife, bugs, the human anatomy and strange creatures to name a few. I am inspired by seeing beauty in what others may regard as ugly and hope that I can convey this in what I do.
