I work from the unknown, from the inside, taking the material as my starting point and allowing a form to emerge and evolve as naturally as possible. A sense of place often informs my work: it might be the original inspiration for a piece or a specific setting I have in mind for the finished sculpture.

Christopher's sculptures explore transitional states. A selection of works in steel, plaster and resin will be exhibited on the trail.

'My work focuses on the transistional states of thought and place. The physical action in the binding of the steel wire is caught in the plaster skin. Through the making process of the work i am exploring myself. Culminating in sculpture. An investigative insight into transitional states and the self.'

My work focuses on the body. I find the human figure unpredictable, constantly changing and challenging. There is a connection between the artist and the model, you can capture their/your personality and emotions without it being a portrait/self portrait. I find the process intuitive; I work quickly and only allow myself to reflect on what I have done afterwards - and then change it. I capture an impression of what I see, focusing on elements to make them more dynamic - emphasising complementry colours and how they react to each other. Read more →
