Chez Williams' inspiration comes from a love of working with textiles. She loves to create a scene, mixing images, her photographs and vintage textiles making contemporary works with a hint of kitsch and a sense of fun.
I originally trained as an illustrator - now I make and sew my drawings.
I create 'animal-friends' from recycled fabric, clothes, buttons, ribbons and trinkets. I love bright colours, pattern and textures - especially pink sparkles!
All of the animal-friends are lovingly hand made and totally unique. They're all very friendly and each has its own cheeky personality!
I have always been strongly drawn to textiles of all kinds – I love the colour, the texture, the smell of fabric. In recent years dyeing, printing, feltmaking and stitching have become something of a passion. In addition to my textile work, I also work as Finance Manager for an architectural practice. I enjoy both aspects of my work but often have difficulty reconciling the two.
Since I made my first serious pieces at college I have worked intuitively, being drawn to a subject without knowing why, and it is through the process of exploration in making a piece that I learn what it is that fascinates me as an artist. My aim has always been to develop the properties of the materials I use rather than to gain control over the outcome of the technique.
